I haven’t yet won on endless difficulty but I’m winning fairly regularly on impossible.Įvery other difficulty is just exceedingly easy. I have a habit of forgetting about Dust system improvements because of the market until it nearly cripples my Empire. Only the first 10-20 turns of research tends to be almost the same every game. If your research trees seem mixed and unfocused, you're probably doing the right thing.

Sometimes researching a new planet type is more valuable than a new building upgrade - it often depends. I pretty much always build "Wide" and prioritize building upgrades that are worth the Industry/turn investment.

I haven't won a game where I didn't tech into the Military Tree in the first 30-40 turns (Fast+ speed) and that bothers me a bit. By the time you get a second or third warning it's often too late. When you get a warning about a Science/Economic/Conquest/actual win condition, the game warns you early enough for you to take action. It can easily be mistaken for a game-ending victory and I've played with friends that have been tricked by it more than a few times. Some of the quests warn you when another faction is close to a victory. I've turned off about half of the notifications in the options to speed my turns up and it's helped me focus on my coloniesand ships way more. You seem to ask about several different things so I'll try and answer some of themĪ lot of the competitive quests have prizes that change and don't always matter that much.

I've played over 100 hours in ES2 and have beat it on Endless difficulty with 2 of the Factions.

This isn't a complaint against the game at all, I absolutely love it, I was just curious if anybody else felt this way? I might be a bit biased though, as I have a tendency to play "tall" and research technologies in a very generalized way rather than specializing in any branch, so I might be shooting myself in the foot. And it always seems like there's a faction on the verge of winning early in the game that you have to quickly intervene against. Occasionally a faction manages to get a massive sprawling empire and you're there with your jaw hanging open wondering how that's even possible this early in the game. It often feels like you're behind in most techs and have to use the few techs in which you're ahead to gain as much of an advantage as possible. There's usually 5 different quests going on and you know that you won't be able to win in at least 2 or 3 of them. Perhaps difficult is the wrong word though, "overwhelming" might be a more fitting term. I say this as someone who spent plenty of time playing the first Endless Space, this game gives me some difficult.
